Vendor List for LDRS 29 Updated

The LDRS 29 Vendor List has been updated, and the diagram re-drawn to show all of the Vendor spaces.

ROC would like to offer its thanks to all of these vendors for supporting LDRS 29.  Please show them your support, as well!

RV Pump-Out Information for LDRS 29

Our portable toilet vendor has indicated that he will be able to accomodate some RV pumping requests when he comes out on-site to pump out the portable toilets.

We will have a sign-up sheet at the Registration table.  If you'd like your RV holding tank pumped out, you MUST sign up the day before at the Registration table, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Our vendor has limited capacity, and given the large number of folks who will be RV camping on-site, I wouldn't count on him being able to accomodate everyone who might want his services.

Other options: According to RVdumps.com, there is a dump station at Mojave Narrows Regional Park in Victorville, and another one in Hesperia at the truck stop where Interstate 15 meets Hwy 395.

LCO Radio Broadcasting on 90.1 FM at LDRS 29

Thanks to Van Norman Audio Visual, ROC has a fantastic Public Address system, with lots of speakers positioned all along the flag line at the front of the range.  However, even with all these speakers, it's not always possible to hear the LCO announcements over the PA system when you're far out on the range recovering your project, or out loading a rocket on the "away" pads.  Also, if you're parked several rows back in the camping area, you may not always be able to hear the PA system clearly.

For these reasons, ROC will be broadcasting all PA system announcements throughout LDRS 29 at 90.1 MHz on your FM radio dial.

The ROC Radio broadcasts make use of a low-power FCC-legal FM radio transmitter, on a normally-empty channel, providing radio coverage to the entire launch site.  Simply tune your car radio or other receiver to 90.1 MHz on your FM dial, and you should be able to hear everything going on.

ROC Weather Center provided by Southern California Weather Authority

Kevin Martin of the Southern California Weather Authority has provided a custom forecast for LDRS 29.

You can see the full details of the forecast on the ROC Weather Center page, listed unter the "FAQ" tab of the menu at the top of this site.

Thanks, Kevin!

Special Projects Reminder

A reminder for anyone planning Special Projects for LDRS 29:

If you haven't yet received approval for your Special Project, please contact Wedge Oldham as soon as possible.

REMEMBER: All "Special Projects" -- anything expected to fly over 15,000' AGL, or with motors totaling more than 10,240 N-s (a full "M") -- must be reviewed in advance by Wedge Oldham, the LDRS 29 Special Projects Coordinator. Wedge may be reached via email at: wedge@westworld.com, or via telephone at: 818-590-7748.

Troop 594 Announces Menu for On-Site Food Sales

One of the LDRS 29 on-site food vendors -- Boy Scout Troop 594, from Tehachapi, CA -- has announced the menu of items that they will be serving during LDRS 29.  The Boy Scouts' food booth will open for business starting Friday Morning, June 11th, and will be open through Monday afternoon, June 14th.

The following menu items include "all the trimmings":

Breakfast (one different entree each morning)

  • Pancakes with bacon & sausage
  • Breakfast Burritos

Lunch

  • Hot dogs
  • Hamburgers

Dinner (one different entree each night)

  • Tacos
  • Tri Tip
  • Carne Asada

The Boy Scouts' food booth is located at the West end of Vendor Row -- don't miss them!

In addition to the listed entrees, they'll also be selling snacks and drinks throughout the day, and will have plenty of fresh hot coffee available each morning.  Be sure to give them your support!

Important Rules Regarding Pets at LDRS 29

The ROC Board understands that your pets are family members, and that, to you, they are just little people with fur.

However, a rocket launch in the desert is a very inhospitable place, and can be very dangerous and stressful to our furry family members.  Alkaline soil can irritate sensitive paws, and the unrelenting sun can cause sunburn, dehydration, and heat exhaustion.  Normally healthy animals can become ill, and normally friendly animals can bite or snap when stressed by the harsh conditions, loud noises, and unfamiliar sights, sounds, and smells.

We strongly encourage you to leave your pets at home, for their comfort and safety, and the comfort and safety of our human guests.

In the interest of ensuring the comfort and safety of all of our guests, both human and animal, the following rules will be in effect at LDRS:

  1. All animals must be either confined to motor homes or kept on a leash at ALL times.  NO EXCEPTIONS.
  2. Animal waste must be cleaned up IMMEDIATELY by the pet's owner.  Carry bags with you at all times!
  3. Sufficient shade and fresh, clean water must be provided for your animals.  Mistreatment or neglect of animals will not be tolerated!
  4. Animals may not be left unattended at any time.
  5. Animals are not allowed at the Sundowner Ranch (banquet site).
  6. Animals are not allowed on the launch range.  They must remain south of the flag line at all times.
  7. If you bring a pet to LDRS, it is your personal responsibility to find someone to stay with your pet while you are away from your campsite, whether to attend the banquet, to launch or recover a rocket, or whatever.  You brought the animal, you take the responsibility of ensuring that it is cared for.
  8. Unattended and/or unleashed animals will be reported to the local animal control officials, and the owners will be asked to leave LDRS.
  9. If your animal's presence at LDRS creates a dangerous or threatening situation, or causes a nuisance to other attendees (e.g.: animal waste not cleaned up, or a dog barking frequently, or at night), you will be asked to leave LDRS.

We will try to be fair, and will listen to both sides in any disagreements.  However, you should be aware that we will be choosing to err firmly on the side of the safety and comfort of our guests in any disputes, and all decisions of the ROC Board will be final.  Please don't put us in the position of having to rule against you, and ask you to leave LDRS.

The ROC Board wants to make LDRS 29 a safe and enjoyable event for all of our guests.  Please help us to acheive that goal.  We prefer that you leave your pets at home.  However, if you must bring pets to LDRS, please follow the rules, and keep everyone safe and comfortable.

Range Duty Volunteers still needed for LDRS 29

ROC plans to host another great LDRS this year, but we can't do it alone.

LDRS 29 is just over 2 weeks away, and yet, barely half of the range duty positions have been filled so far.  We need your help -- running a large rocket launch event is a group effort, and everyone's assistance is needed.

Without volunteers, launches simply don't happen.

We need volunteers to work as Pad Managers and Assistants, LCOs, RSOs, Spotters, and to help out at the Registration table.  No prior experience is necessary -- we'll be happy to provide plenty of on-the-job training.  Shifts are short, too: just 2 hours, so you'll still have plenty of time to fly.

RSO, LCO, and PM volunteers must be adults, but responsible children and teenagers are welcome to sign up as Pad Assistants and Spotters, and to help out at the Registration table.  RSOs must be certified level 2 or level 3 high-power flyers.

Please sign up at http://ldrs29.org/content/range-duty-signup to work a shift or two!

With our thanks,

The LDRS 29 Planning Crew/ROC Board
